Frequently Asked Questions

How much of my time is this going to require?

As much as you can do, although we do have minimums that need to be maintained in order to be a "member in good standing".

What kind of training or experience do I need?

No experience is required.  We have a great Recruit program the matches you up with an Officer or senior firefighter that takes you through all of the basics as well as departmental policies and procedures.  Once your Recruit training is done, you will be required to attend State of Connecticut Firefighter I certification classes.  These are normally held on Tuesdays & Thursdays, with some Saturdays & Sundays.

What is the process of getting on the Fire Department and how long will it take?

Once your completed application is submitted, a background check will be done.  Then you will be instructed to go to a Medical Facility for a physical that will meet OSHA/NFPA requirements.  The sooner you get the physical done, the sooner your training -- and your future -- can begin!
