Frequently Asked Questions
How much of my time is this going to require?
As much as you can do. Although we do have minimums that need to be maintained in order to be a "member in good standing".
What kind of training or experience do I need?
No experience is required. We have a great Recruit program the matches you up with an officer or senior firefighter that takes you through all the basics,as well as departmental policies & procedures. Once your Recruit training is done, you will be required to attend a State of Connecticut Firefighter I certification classes. These are normally held on Tuesdays & Thursdays, with some Saturdays & Sundays.
Once your completed application is submitted, a background check will be done. Then you will be instructed to go to the Medical Facility that the department uses to a physical that will meet OSHA/NFPA requirements. The sooner you get the physical done, the sooner the Chief gets all the paperwork back to review to get you on board.
What is the process of getting on the Fire Department and how long will it take?
Do you accept women on the department?
Yes we gladly do. As a matter of fact we have several women on the department now. They meet the same requirements as any other firefighter on the department.
